Petrobras to Begin Negotiations for Exploration Blocks Offshore Ghana

Petrobras (PBR) said Friday it submitted an expression of interest in exploration blocks in the Keta Basin offshore Ghana, and Ghana's Ministry of Energy and Green Transition said it approved the application to negotiate exploration contracts for four blocks.
The approval moves the Brazilian oil company into direct talks on contract terms, marking a potential new foothold for Petrobras (PBR) in West Africa.
Beyond Ghana, Petrobras (PBR) has been looking to several African countries for opportunities, including Sao Tome and Principe, Namibia, Ivory Coast, and South Africa.
The Keta Basin has seen limited drilling activity—only about six wells since the 1970s, with the last deepwater well in 2003—and no commercial discoveries to date, despite the presence of hydrocarbons in earlier wells and geological analogies to proven systems elsewhere in the Gulf of Guinea and Brazil's Equatorial Margin.
