Day 1 at the High-Level Consultative Conference on the Next Steps to the Landmark United Nations Resolution on the Trafficking of Enslaved Africans.

The opening day of the High-Level Consultative Conference by the president John Dramani Mahama held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ghana, brought together policymakers, scholars, civil society leaders, and representatives of African and Diaspora communities to deliberate on translating the landmark United Nations Resolution on the Trafficking of Enslaved Africans into a common framework of actionable commitments for a just and equitable world order.

Representing the Ethiopian World Federation and the Rastafari Council delegation were Victor Quaynor (Jah Son), serving as Youth Chair of the Rastafari Council Ghana, Esq. Scherill Murray-Powell International President of The Ethiopian World Federation and also Brother Levi President of EWF Local 24 Ghana. The conference provided a vital platform for engaging in meaningful discussions on reparatory justice, historical accountability, and sustainable pathways for strengthening the relationship between Africa and its global Diaspora.

Throughout the day's proceedings, participants emphasized the importance of moving beyond recognition of historical injustices toward concrete actions that promote healing, development, and equity for people of African descent worldwide. As members of the Federation delegation, we joined fellow stakeholders in exploring practical strategies for implementing the resolution's objectives through partnerships, advocacy, education, and policy reforms.

The conference reinforced the growing international commitment to addressing the enduring legacy of the transatlantic slave trade while empowering future generations to contribute to a more inclusive and just global order. Day One concluded with renewed determination among delegates to ensure that the aspirations embodied in the UN resolution are transformed into measurable outcomes for African and Diaspora communities around the world.
